HA! Not even trying to be competitive.
Called up my local Toyota dealer (AutoNation Toyota Scion in Libertyville, IL) to find out how much it would be to get my winter tires swapped onto my 2nd set of OEMs and have the TPMS reprogrammed. They quoted me $320, $160 to remove stock tires/mount winters and $160 to program the new TPMS. Being the nice guy that I am, I did not burst out laughing and just hang up on the guy. Instead I said thank you for the information, and proceeded to call a local auto shop (Auto Lab -Libertyville, a great little family owned/run shop near me). The guy there Sherman, who is a super nice dude, said it'd be about $120-150 for everything. Score a win for the "little guy!"
For your time, have the photo that is currently the background on my home PC and work computer. :)

Proving my standard line of "everything is more expensive at the dealer"

Which is pretty funny, since by all logic the big name business should be significantly cheaper than a small mom & pop type shop.
I will gladly support the small business man, especially when they're charging me less for both services than the dealership is for one.

Long ago GF was an assistant service manager at a Mercedes dealership. A lot of their income comes from people who don't have time to shop Tire Rack or take the car to an alignment shop. When I had my '97 SHO, I was just such a guy - working insane hours at a law firm. Still, I made friends with the shop guys who appreciated someone who knew what their jobs were like. They comped me on a lot of stuff, and didn't gouge me. They also let me buy the Mobil 1 I used instead of forcing me to buy it from them at a markup.

The guy I used to go to in AZ, Bob at Asian Auto in Tempe (for anyone in AZ who needs a great shop to go to), would do my oil changes with whatever supplies I brought in if I was too busy at the time to do it myself or I didn't want to lay on the 150 degree asphalt. lol

I gave my dealership a chance, they were over $200 more expensive than Costco.

oh yeah, but it's how they make their money. The majority of new car sales don't net them a lot of profit, they just hound you to come back to THEIR SERVICE LANE AND ONLY THEIR SERVICE LANE BECAUSE ALL OTHER SERVICE PLACES ARE HORRIBLE AND WILL WRECK THIS BEAUTIFUL CAR WE SOLD YOU .
Yeah...
They also will charge you what the book is for a job no matter how long it takes them (in the majority of cases). 6 hour job? Well we do about 900 of those a month so it takes us 2.5 hours now. CHARGE EM 6 hours!

True, and I know that's where they make their money. Then again, that is the ONLY place that a small mom & pop service place makes their money and they were well under half what the dealer wanted. haha

I would have gotten it done at Costco, cause they do TPMS for free when you get tires mounted, but they only mount/program if you bought the tires through them. I got mine through TireRack for $200 less than what Costco wanted for the same tires, so I'm still coming out on top... sort of. haha

Wait they do TPMS for free? I just ordered some WS80's yesterday, I'll update if Costco Canada does also. Or do you mean they sync the TPMS for free?

Unintelligently greedy, at that! Hell charge more, but slightly reasonably more so that someone like myself might think that their price might be worth the backing of a dealership should anything go wrong... instead of the laughable excuse for a price that it really is.

Ah, that makes more sense. I'll just deal with the TPMS light on my dash and check the air weekly, I'm too cheap to get new ones for my steelies.

Yeah, I got a 2nd set of OEM wheels w/ stock tires and TPMS for $350. Was definitely worth it.

Where? That is crazy cheap. Although I would have gotten different summer rims and used those heinous stock rims for winter...

It's why my dad has refused to work at a dealer service his entire career (and he's in his 50s) despite offers

A guy in my car club. They are going to double as my winter/track wheels. Eventually I will get a set of wheels I like the look of for summer dailys, a light set for track days, and keep one of the two OEM sets for winter.

I want these in 16", but this colour is only 17" so I don't know. I would like some extra sidewall if I can get it.

That's the kind of mechanic you want. And for everyone - I've said it here many times. If you need a good mechanic, Car Talk keeps a list of them in the Mechanix Files section. These are mechanics that have been used and recommended by their listeners over the years.

I'm sticking with 17" because tires can actually be cheaper, especially performance tires, since it's a more common size.
I like those though!

Hmm they are? Might make that decision easy then, those are the best looking rim in 4x108, 7.5 with 42mm offset gives an awesome stance, and it shaves about 6lbs per wheel off.
